The Agreement on Separation (Disengagement) of Forces between Israel and Egypt signed on January 18 1974, and known as the Sinai I agreement, brought the Yom Kippur War to an end on the southern front. It also marked the first Israeli withdrawal from land occupied in 1967. Beginning with direct talks with Egyptian officers at the 101 Kilometre mark on the Suez-Cairo road, the talks ended with a “shuttle” by US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, marking increased US involvement in the region.
