Introduction

The government of Golda Meir, which was re-elected in December 1973, had to deal with the aftermath of the Yom Kippur war, with economic crisis, ending the occupation of Egyptian and Syrian territory and preventing a war of attrition. With US help, separation of forces agreements were achived with Egypt and Syria. At the same time the Agranat Commission which investigated the failures at the beginning of the war led to the resignation of Meir in April 1974 – the end of an era.
